LAS VEGAS – Amazon Prime Day is one of the biggest shopping days of the year, and it’s a great opportunity for sellers to increase sales, as we have done here at Mayan for many of our customers. With the 2nd-ever Fall Prime Day coming up in October, just three months after the July version, it is more important than ever to stand out from the crowd.

One way to make your business more visible during Prime Day is to offer discounts. Another way to increase sales during Prime Day is to increase ad spend; customers who increased their ad spend by 50% to 150% saw a correlation in having the highest sales growth.

In our case study from last year, one customer who did not offer a discount in 2021 saw only a 1% to 3% increase in sales during Prime Day; however, when they offered a 20% to 25% discount during the 2022 Prime Day period, their sales increased by 277%. This year, we helped more Amazon sellers implement this strategy, with some customers hitting seven to 15 times the amount of sales on an average day.

Even if sales ‘only’ increases by 50% or more during the Prime Day period, the improvement on your sales velocity metrics will help in the weeks afterwards through an improved organic ranking. This intangible value-add is something that goes beyond the basic P&L of offering a discount, having increased ad spend, etc.

Here are some additional tips for businesses looking to increase sales during Prime Day:

  • Start planning early. This includes making sure you have enough inventory, setting up your discounts, and creating your ad campaigns. Amazon recommends that FBA inventory arrives at US fulfillment centers by September 12 (next week!) for the Fall Prime Day period.
  • Target the right products. Focus on products that are popular with Prime members and that are priced competitively.
  • Optimize your listings. Make sure your product listings are optimized for Prime Day. This includes using clear and concise titles, high-quality images, and informative descriptions.

By following these tips, sellers can increase their chances of success during the upcoming Fall Prime Day in mid-October, as well as Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the general holiday period!
