Sourcing in China & SE Asia - Pre-Production Activities

This workshop will cover all of the activities associated with finding and setting up reliable manufacturing partners in China and with a review of the upcoming region of SE Asia (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia etc) and to be ready and confident to place POs. China 2 West is uniquely placed to provide advice and tips on best practices as we have over 13 years manufacturing experience in China and we recently opened a South East Asia office to open up that region. In addition, all necessary paperwork including NDAs, contracts etc in both chinese and english will be provided to workshop attendees FOC.

SE Asia introduction – potential low cost manufacturing sources

Product Sourcing – Supplier ID, verification and quotations The best "verification" i have found is weather the factory has shipped goods into the USA.  I've never had luck with factories that haven't already shipped into the US and i typically won't buy from a factory unless they have.  Quotations are important, but they are only as good as their Spec Sheet.  Every spec must be communicated on the spec sheet and if it's not, the factory will choose the lowest cost/lowest quality option..that typically creates problems.

Your trip to China – how to organise it most efficiently, cultural differences . I have found that factories are incredibly hospitable and will pick you up from the airport, train, etc.  They will help yo book accomodations, and pay for all of your meals.  I don't do this, but they will also get you drunk at night. ;)

NDAs & IPR protection - This is a fantasy and the best IP protection is the following:  1- Pay on time and do what you say your going to do, then 2- you MUST have a relationship for at least 2-3 years before a factory will protect your IP.  NDAs are a waste of time...the relationship is King in China.

Audits

Product development cycle - this is useful for expectation management.  The first order will always take longer than expected.

Packaging - this is as important as product quality and getting the factories to understand this take time and a lot of effort.  Cardboard here cannot be found in China without a lot of effort from the factory.  Again, this is where a factory already shipping to the USA for an e-commerce guy can be most helpful.

QA & QC – product files, AQL - Asian Inspection is great, and the least required is a full Sample inspection prior to production, and then a QC-Pre-Shipment inspection prior to shipment.  Asia Inspection is honest (not many like them) and they provide a great report prior to shipping.  Just make sure the Freight Forwarder will not pick up until YOU say the goods have passed inspection.

Troubleshooting – what to do when it all goes wrong - using real examples - this will be entertaining.

Supply Chain Management in Asia - Production and Post-Production Activities

Finding a good supplier is just half the battle, now you need to maintain a reliable supply chain from 1000’s of miles away. This workshop will cover all of the activities from the moment you are ready to place POs’ and start manufacturing to the moment product arrives at your door to the right quality standard and at the right time. Using our vast experience of manufacturing projects in China we will give you all the horror stories and the pitfalls so that you can navigate through the minefield of managing your own supply chain in China. All necessary paperwork will be provided to workshop attendees FOC.

Supply chain management overview - Most of this looks useful, but he appears to making it seem much harder than i actually is.  Get Telex Release for PO's and BOL's.  Factories will want a percentage down, typically 30%, but i would push for 5% and land at 20%...then they want the balance in exchange for the shipping documents needed to clear customs in the USA.  A good Ocean Freight Forward can handle all of this including Customer Fees and Duties.

Legals & contracts – POs and purchase contracts.

Finance – Methods of purchase & currency management – credit terms, exchange rates, VAT rebate

QA including QC mid, final & container loading inspections

Certification & compliance including lab testing - We're lucky and don't have much of this but we have back up paperwork should a customer need it.  CPSIA website has good information per product category.

Logistics (shipping, 3PL providers etc)

Facebook Marketing For eCommerce Sellers

This workshop is intended for eCommerce sellers with beginner to intermediate experience using Facebook ads. There will pre-work leading up to the workshop especially geared toward beginners to make sure they're up to speed for the training. A laptop is required since we'll be creating your Facebook Ad campaigns during the workshop. While the Facebook Ads and ClickFunnels workshops may be taken independently, they work in tandem as one teaches you how to drive traffic and the other how to convert that traffic into sales. With nearly 2 Billion active monthly users, there's a very good chance your prospect is on Facebook. And thanks to Facebook, we know A LOT about these folks. This knowledge allows us to create highly relevant and targeted ad campaigns. In this workshop, we'll create and deploy ad campaigns for your brand. We'll cover everything from proper campaign setup, important metrics and analysis, and advanced topics such as pixels, retargeting and messenger bots (bots have taken the FB marketing scene by storm). This will be a Facebook Ads intensive, so please bring your laptops and be ready to get some work done!

From At-Risk to Top Seller: How to Use an Amazon Account Review to Protect Your Business

Account audits are vital when it comes to protecting your Amazon account. They can mean the difference between successfully selling on Amazon or losing sales due to blocked listings, or worse, an account suspension. In this workshop we'll show you:

  • How to understand Amazon and their teams
  • How Amazon views you and why that's important
  • The most important data you need to review in your account
  • A standard operating procedure you or your team can use to consistently protect your account
  • How to analyze and improve your account performance
  • The #1 thing you should be doing to protect your Amazon account (<< most sellers aren't doing this)

Once you understand your account standing, we'll show you how to effectively communicate with Amazon's teams.

Whether you're appealing a policy warning, blocked listing or an account suspension, you should be using a proven method. Otherwise, you're just wasting your time. Former Amazonian Chris McCabe and Leah McHugh will show you the 4-step plan for effective communication with Amazon.

The advertising industry is abuzz about a recent newcomer to the business – Amazon. Amazon seems to be entering nearly every industry possible. But why is it that media companies, advertising agencies, and Google and Facebook are secretly worried about this newcomer? Featured Speaker, Forrester analyst, Collin Colburn, will tell you why. He will also uncover the different ad products Amazon is bringing to market and talk about why Amazon is placing a heavier emphasis on advertising as part of its overall business. Additionally, you will learn: How Amazon sellers can create visibility for their products on Amazon (through organic and paid means). How other companies leverage omni-channel advertising to not only sell product, but engage customers. What kind of advertising - outside of Amazon – you should be leveraging and why.

Optimize and Rank your Amazon Listings for Google

It is true that 70% of product searches originate on Amazon, however Google still commands almost all of the other 30% of shoppers. Because Amazon has one of the strongest authority rankings on Google, it is very easy to have your Amazon listing rank on Google even if you do not have rankings on Amazon. This session will talk about what Google looks for in your listing and how you can easily get to Page one.

The ABC’s of Amazon Advertising: The Ultimate Guide to Profitable Growth

• The hidden profit levers that help you quickly outpace your ad campaign performance goals • How to combine the principles of SEO, conversion optimization, and content marketing to create highly profitable product listings • Advanced tactics to elevate your Sponsored Product, Headline Search, and Product Display Ads But do it in a way that’s super accessible for the beginner, for example a new marketing manager who has been given the responsibility to build out Amazon advertising for the brand (manufacturer) they work for. The reason the foundation (which I’d cover extensively during my presentation) is so important is because we regularly audit the Amazon advertising accounts of well known, high spending brands and see the same mistakes in account level (both AMS and in Seller Central): 1. Strategy (right/wrong product selection, over focus on a global ACoS target, etc) 2. Structure (the unsexy yet vital component of scale, how (and why) to build out Sponsored Products manual campaigns, how to structure Headline Search ads, when to use Product Display ads, etc) 3. (and often see a lack of) Optimizations (everything from bid management to the importance of bridging multiple data sources from the Amazon interface into something instructive and useful, adjusting campaign budgets, making keyword optimizations/adjustments based on search query reports, etc).

The Design Patent as a Means of Protection for Private Label Sellers

Unfortunately for private label sellers, there’s no silver bullet that guarantees Amazon will take town ASINs or suspend selling privileges of infringing sellers. However, a design patent gives the private label seller more ammunition and leverage, and increases the likelihood that Amazon will move against infringing sellers. Beginning with whether it makes sense for a private label seller to obtain design patents, to tactics and strategy for moving against infringers. It is not a one-size-fits all. But, as noted above, having a design patent significantly increases the likelihood that Amazon will move against infringers decisively and rapidly. Without a design patent – even with a utility patent – Amazon is not so responsive. We will discuss the options available to private label sellers: from identifying and protecting their IP (namely design patents) to moving against infringing sellers – and leave them with a greater understanding of their options and available tools to possibly increase their competitive advantage on Amazon.

Wayfair and Sales Tax:  What do I Really Need to Know?

Sales tax responsibility as we’ve known it for over 50 years changed on June 21, 2018. Physical presence is no longer a requirement for states to impose collection responsibility on sellers. But, physical presence is still a factor for businesses that use fulfillment services that result in owned inventory in other states. Online sellers have a whole new reality that they have to adjust to and there is a lot of conflicting information that is shared. Come hear what the decision really said, what states are doing and how to protect your business. Diane Yetter of the Sales Tax Institute will cut through the clutter to help you understand what you need to know and help you evaluate if your business is in compliance.

Join Amazon Accounting experts Paul Grey and Cyndi Thomason to delve into working capital strategies for Amazon account profitability and growth. During this session we will discuss working capital efficiency, how to measure your return on invested capital and how to improve it. We will look at the relationship between growth and working capital, and how the ROIC impacts it. We will also examine key Amazon fees which can be optimised to improve profitability and how these can affect your bottom line. Case study scenarios:

• How much capital do I have invested in my Amazon business, and how much is that capital returning me? Is that good or bad? How do I make it better?

• How much more inventory/capital does this business need to grow another $5M in revenue? What margins and profitability do I need to sustain in order to grow the working capital to reach that size?

• What are some ways I can getter better working capital efficient, so I can grow in a way that is less capital constrained?

• How can fees be managed; better inventory efficiency, avoid long-term storage fees, stickerless products to avoid prep fees, freight direct to FBA to avoid inbound shipment fees?

We will share proprietary data and analysis that will provide the audience valuable insights into the performance and best practices for optimizing Amazon advertising performance. We examine key trends relating to the most important metrics that impact seller's advertising performance. This data would be anonymized but using our scale we would be able to share market data on metrics including: ACOS by category, Total ACOS metrics (total attribution + the relationship between advertising and organic revenue), and average spend across categories. We provide case studies where we could demonstrate the correct amount of advertising spent on launching a product and non-linear nature of ACOS early on during a product launch. We share data on the performance of different advertising units. e.g. SP vs. HAS, as well as information on the relationship between advertising, pricing, and inventory supply. Join us for this event to gain a better understanding of the key levers that can be used to maximize advertising performance on Amazon today.

But in doing so, Amazon tries to take ownership of your customers and limits your ability to re-market to them on their platform. How can you strengthen your sales funnels while retaining your ability to communicate with your customers? This session will describe the most effective strategies in terms of fast and slow funnels, the best assets and opportunities to reach your customers within TOS, and how to build a brand flywheel by tying it all together so your past product successes can drive success of your next product launch.
