In November 2014, the company began a pilot with eBay’s global shipping program to make about 200,000 products it has on that portal available to shoppers in the United Kingdom. Interestingly, one of the hot sellers was T-shirts from the TV show “Breaking Bad.” In June, Target began expanding that test to the 64 countries in eBay’s program. This is a pretty interesting move by Target to utilize eBay's Global Shipping program to become more available globally. This is one of the most cost effective ways in which marketplace sellers can test the waters internationally. I believe that this is arguably eBay's most powerful feature for sellers. It’s a victory for Amazon and other e-commerce companies in a case with major implications for their businesses. The company’s two year legal battle with Seattle-based novelty pillowcase maker Milo & Gabby was closely watched across the industry, with the potential to establish new rules about what online marketplaces must do to keep counterfeit goods from being listed on their sites. This is a huge victory for Amazon as if they were found to be liable then one can imagine that they would have seen a wave of new court proceedings. This current case will most probably go to appeal and then lead to a final decision. As a seller it is very important that you sell products that are legitimate and the real thing. Read more here.
Amazon.com is pulling the plug on yet another product, announcing on its Web site today that it is closing down its Amazon Register credit card processing service. The news comes after GeekWire reported earlier today that the company was shuttering its daily deals program and discontinuing the Amazon Local app. From the outside it seems that Amazon is adding more focus to their Local offering and thus is closing Amazon Register and Amazon Local business in the next 6 months. Will we see something new in the local space in 2016? I tend to believe so and most probably more focus on the Amazon Services business. Read more here.
