Third Party Marketplace News – eBay unveils retailer friendly ratings, Jet accelerates and drone delivery in Canada?

Every week, Hendrik Laubscher will be providing third party sellers with a selection of news stories that they need to be aware of. As a Prosper Show participant we strive to ensure that you can focus on your business while we handle all the industry news. This past week was a slow news week for marketplaces. it is almost as if Amazon only wanted media attention on their new delivery solution in Seattle. eBay has finally decided to be more friendly towards seller ratings. Jet.com is supposedly the 4th largest marketplace for ChannelAdvisor sellers and in Canada a marketplace is doing a proof of concept on drone delivery.

The changes, announced Thursday at an eBay Seller Summit in San Jose, Calif., mean retailers that sell on eBay no longer will be penalized in their ratings for routine returns and exchanges and for late shipments beyond their control. The new rules take effect Feb. 20. The new standards put control back in the hands of sellers and eliminate worries about problems that are out of sellers’ control, Wenig said during the gathering of eBay merchants. eBay has for years not been an ally for sellers. It seems that since Devin Wenig took over that is beginning to change. This is the right sounds from San Jose headquarters but the effects will only be seen later in the year. Read more here.

Jet has gained altitude so rapidly that it’s currently our number 4 marketplace by GMV, out of the marketplaces we support worldwide. That means that just a month after its public debut, it’s already bigger for ChannelAdvisor than incumbents like Sears, Best Buy, Newegg, Tesco and Rakuten — marketplaces that have been operating for years. ChannelAdvisor announced that their data is indicating that Jet has become their fourth largest marketplace by GMV (Gross Merchandise Value).It is not surprising that this has occur in such little time as Jet marketed well and continue to be front of mind for customers. Shop.ca will commence testing and integrating DDC’s drone delivery platform with its existing logistics framework. The idea is that a marketplace will be using a drones to deliver certain products to Canadian customers. I mention this article as I believe that in future this will be the norm in terms of getting small products to customers. Read more here.
